Slow-Roasted Salmon

Slow-Roasted Salmon

1 1/2 lb center cut salmon, skinned
1/4 tsp ground turmeric
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper

1 Preheat the oven to 275 degrees F.
2 Cut the salmon lengthwise and then crosswise to make 4 equal squares of fish. Lightly sprinkle the salmon all over with a pinch of turmeric and rub in slightly to coat evenly. Season salmon with salt and pepper and place on a very lightly oiled oven-proof nonstick pan. Roast the salmon, turning the pieces carefully with a spatula after about 10 minutes, until just cooked through, about 20 minutes in all. (Slow-roasted salmon looks bright orange when done, and will be luscious in the center.)

Servings: 4

I'm New, just wanted to say HI!

Hi, this is my first time in the forum, haven't had time to really review this program and its many segments. I'm over 50 and need to lose about 150+ pounds to get to my ideal weight (insurance guideline). I however, would be happy to get to below 200 pounds, and not feel dead....I live in Ohio and have two children both teens who basically drive me crazy. I work full time outside the home and basically am the main bread winner. My job is extremely stressful, I work in two different locations on a M-W-F on office, T-T the other office which is over 138 miles from my home. Well I guess that's enough about me for now, out of time again. Thanks for listening!!

Summer Exercise

Discussions on sunburn over the holidays got me to thinking about Summer and exercise. Summer has always been the hardest time of the year for me to work out. The hot humid weather tends to leave me feeling tired all the time. ;-)

All fun aside, there are some real issues to consider when exercising outside in the summer.

SUN - sunscreen learn to love it. The onlything worse than healing from a painful sunburn is the increased risk for skin cancer. Besides who wants to have skin the texture of tanned leather as they age?

Morning exercise

I have seen several people mention in logs or forums that they have trouble gettingup to exercise in the morning. I definitely struggle with this on days when my morning schedule includes: pets, getting kids up and off to school, and going to work. I already get up around 5 most mornings and just can't find an extra 20 minutes in the schedule there. I am often not home until late and need time to wind down, so getting up before 5 is just too early.

So how are you dealing with the mornings? What do you do when you can't get up early and exercise? Or how do you find more time in your mornings?

Main Forum

This is just too quiet...

No one is talking about exercise? is anyone doing it?

I love to exercise, but I hate to exercise alone. It isn't that I am particularly social, I really am not, I don't even really like to talk while I work out. It isn't that I don't know what I need to do or how to do it either. Somehow, it just always work harder with I work out with someone else. The added bonus is that if i know I am meeting someone at the gym, I feel a great need to be there and not cop-out.

Am I the only one feeling this way?

I ACTUALLY HAVE 2 QUESTIONS. WOULD IT BE OK TO SUB 1 MEAL WITH AN HERBALIFE SHAKE MIXED WITH 1% MILK? ALSO HOW MUCH TABULI (?SP?) IS OK WITH EITHER LOW FAT RITZ OR WITH THE ROUND MELBA TOAST SNACKS. I AM SURE ITS THE OIL IN THE TABULI WHICH IS THE PROBLEM, IS THERE A LOWER FAT OR LO CAL WAY OF MAKING IT?

THANKS,
KIM

1/2 cup Kikkoman reduced salt soy sauce
1 6 oz can of pineapple juice
1/4 cup canola oil
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tbl brown sugar
1/2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp black pepper

Place all ingredients in a small saucepan; simmer 3 minutes. Allow to cool and use to marinade
meat (only one type) from 1 hour to overnight.

Discard marinade and grill meat.

This marinade is excellent for beef tips, chicken breasts or lean pork and is a family favorite.

Hey-O to all! Looking to drop about 40 lbs - in my mid years (46) and struggling with the menopause spread along with the spoon/fork disease...lol. This program peaked my interest, so thought I'd give it a try! I have been at my goal way not too long ago (a couple yrs ago) so I know how smokin' hot I can look!! ;) I live in St Louis MO. Guess that's it for now!! kimmie

Using the Team Diets Log

I am not sure if this is the right place or not, but I will post it here and if the admin thinks it needs to be moved, I am sure they can move it.

I am wondering about the best way to use the log function. Should I log a whole day at one time? If so, what are the times on the log for? Or should I log different activities/meals in different time blocks? That seems cumbersome.

So...
What is the best way to use the log?
How much detail should I log for my meals/exercise?
Who can see my log? Is it just for my personal use or can others see it and give me feedback?

How many calories do we burn daily?

Greg,

I've read on this site that it takes 3,500 calories to burn off 1 pound of weight. I've also read that physical activities such as basketball and racquetball will burn off 700 calories in an hour.

Is there an average number of calories the body will burn off daily without exercise?

I'm trying to do the calculation. If I eat 1,800 calories per day and burn off 700 calories doing physical activities, how many additional calories will my body burn off on average?

Hello Everyone

Hi,

My name is Jacky and I live in the Middle East as an ex-pat with my Scottish husband.... I am Maltese so all my life I've eaten pasta, pasta and more pasta :-) We are very Italian influenced and you all know what Italian food is like - yummy!

In September I decided to get healthy so joined a Spa and started Yoga, Nia and Pilates classes. Those together with a food combining regimen helped me to loose 11 kilos (24.2 lbs) in about 3 or 4 months. Despite the fact that I am still eating healthily, I have reached a plateau and cannot shift another ounce.

Admittedly, now I'm writing about it, I've just realised that I stopped drinking my 3 litres of water daily and for the last 6 weeks I stopped exercising due to my jewellery making for a fashion show next week.

Being the chief cook and bottle washer! Or - cooking for others when on a diet......

Well - it's nice to have a great diet and to get all pumped up to start and stick to it. But sometimes it is quite difficult to cook for the family and stick to a diet. Temptation is there on your side or starvation is their on their side.

In my house we aren't real junk eaters; nor do we eat processed foods and a lot of junk foods - so it is probably easier for me than it is for others on the site.

That is where I think that the portions will really count for me. If it is something that is really not a "diet" food or is prepared a bit different (possible with a sauce or gravy) than "diet" food then I will just have to cut the portion in half.

Main Forum

Thanks Ron for sharing this program....

Hello Everyone,

My name is Dottie and this commitment is just what I need to get started on the road back to normal weight. I'm tired of being obese and having to buy xtra large and 1X size clothing. Winters are very hard for me to stick to a program. Now that spring is here I'm determined to lose the weight and keep it off next winter. With your support and the resources available I truly believe I can finally achieve my goal.

Being retired, you'd think I'd have nothing else to do besides working on improving myself. It's time I make time for me first and then for everyone else.

Hi...I am a 57 yr old woman. I have health problems that could be reduced by losing weight but also keep me from losing weight easily. I need to lower my blood sugar so I can control my diabetes without insulin

I work at home, making beads and jewelry.

My husband has filed for divorce after 33 years with NO warning.

I ne3ed to shake off depression and get motivated to lose weight
